Available OC48 Services
Burstable OC48 POS
Burstable OC48 POS (Packet Over SONET) is designed
to meet the needs of extremely high-volume users. It allows direct
connection to X5's Internet network via POS and offers a full OC48
(2488 Mbps) connection with burstable commitment levels beginning at 0
to 500 Mbps. Using POS instead of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) can
potentially reduce overhead. Cisco POS equipment is utilized.
OC48 Burstable Select
X5
Internet Dedicated OC48 Burstable Select is a usage-based billing model
that has a monthly recurring charge (MRC) for bandwidth commitment and
per-megabit charge for overage. (Overage is determined by comparing your
bandwidth commitment to your sustained usage level.)
Price Protected OC48
Price Protected OC48 is provisioned as a full OC48
circuit (2488 Mbps) with a single, monthly, fixed cost. It is designed
for businesses that require a full OC48 circuit on a sustained level and
need to budget monthly cost.
Shadow OC48
Shadow OC48 offers current OC48 users a redundant
service option that provides an extra level of reliability. It is used
as an automatic back-up connection in the event of a primary OC48
connection failure. Provisioned from the customer's premises to X5's
Internet backbone and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), MEDs are used to
reroute traffic in the event of an outage.
Shadow OC48 uses one router for both OC48
connections, but X5 recommends that the two circuits be provisioned to
two different X5 hubs when possible. All Shadow OC48 users must have
their primary OC48 connection through X5 and all Shadow circuits must
be the same bandwidth as the primary connection.
